ABOUT OUR PRACTICE
OUR HISTORY
Children's Dental Health Center was founded almost 30 years ago by Drs. Steven Herschlag and Martin Cohen, when they were clinical instructors at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. They shared a vision of pediatric dental care that was specific to the needs of each child, delivered in a friendly, relaxed setting. They have since retired, but their philosophy has continued through Dr. Derek Zurn, who has been with the practice since 2007 and been its owner since 2017. He expanded the scope of the practice, providing various forms of sedation, as well as laser dentistry, to help treat more anxious patients, as well as infants and children with feeding and speech problems.
Whether you are scheduling an initial consultation, checking in for a hygiene appointment, receiving pediatric or orthodontic care from one of our dentists, or calling our office with a question or concern, you will be treated like a guest in our “dental home”. Our staff will greet you with a smile, and do their best to accommodate the needs of your child in a way that is sensitive to the needs of your family.
Our staff are highly trained. We rely on the latest research to guide how we approach dental care for your children. We are rigorous in our infection control protocols and our office has the latest technology, materials and equipment for treatment planning and care.
Some of the staff have been with us since our early days. They have seen patients grow up, graduate from High School and College and return to our practice with their own young children. Some of our staff started here as patients themselves. It is because of this history that our practice feels warm and inviting.
We are committed to the communities we serve. We believe it is important to have a presence that extends our mission beyond the walls of our office. Our educational outreach to local preschools, our school-age dental health curriculum, our sponsorships of local sports teams and charitable organizations, all demonstrate our connection to the area. We consider ourselves lucky to be part of such a great community.
OUR OFFICE
Our office was designed to welcome children and their families. Our airport themed waiting room, complete with an airplane play area, our "destination" treatment rooms, video game area, and televisions in the treatment rooms — all help to reinforce our message that "Children are Very Special People."
Infection control in our office is a priority. To protect our patients and ourselves, we strictly maintain sterilization and cross contamination processes using standards recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).We continuously update our equipment and currently have the most advanced technology in digital x-rays, practice management and patient education. We want our patients to have state-of-the-art care.

Mon-Thurs: 8am - 5:00pm
Friday: 8am - 4:00pm
